The ATA has appointed the 2012 National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year, Roz Shaw, as the Chair of its Skills and Workforce committee.
Mrs Shaw is the CEO of Hawkins Transport in Queensland.

The Australian Trucking Association has welcomed the appointment of Richard Hancock as the first chief executive of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Mr Hancock was previously the director of the NHVR Project Office, the body responsible for getting the regulator and the Heavy Vehicle National Laws established.

The trucking industry will have a say in how it will be taxed, after Australia’s transport ministers decided on Friday to appoint an industry representative to the board of Heavy Vehicle Charging and Investment Reform (HVCI).

The HVCI project aims to develop a new system for charging the trucking industry for its use of the roads, as well as helping governments make better decisions about road funding.

The Business Tax Working Group’s proposal to remove the statutory effective life caps on trucks and trailers would make it harder for trucking businesses to upgrade their older trucks to safer and more environmentally friendly models, the Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said today.

The trucking industry’s safety accreditation program, TruckSafe, is pleased to announce the appointment of NatRoad Chief Executive Officer Chris Melham to the TruckSafe Board.

TruckSafe is the trucking industry’s leader in business and risk management and is aimed at improving the safety and professionalism of trucking operators nationwide. Trucking operators accredited under TruckSafe are twice as safe as non-accredited operators.

The Australian Trucking Association has today announced the three finalists for the 2012 Craig Roseneder Award.

The Craig Roseneder Award recognises technical and maintenance excellence in the workshop by an individual, and celebrates the professionalism of the men and women who work behind the scenes in the trucking industry’s workshops.
