Industry Technical Council

The Industry Technical Council (ITC) is a working committee of the Australian Trucking Association. The ITC’s role is to enhance the trucking industry’s safety, professionalism and viability by providing technical input and best practice advice to the ATA. Established in 1994, the ITC and its members work to advance technical excellence in the trucking industry.

ITC performs a unique service in the Australian trucking industry by bringing operators, suppliers, engineers and other specialists together in a long-term discussion forum. Its members provide expert and independent advice in the field to inform the work of the ITC. The outcomes from ITC work to benefit ITC stakeholders and the industry at large by raising technical and maintenance standards, and improving the operational safety of the heavy vehicle sector.

The major published output of the ITCTechnical Advisory Procedures and Safety Alerts are documents developed by the ITC containing technical advice on a range of industry issues. TAPs refer to best practice industry techniques to give guidance on various installation and maintenance processes for safe, optimum component performance. Safety alerts are a shorter safety focused document.

The ITC makes technical recommendations to the ATA’s General Council, policy committees, and the ATA secretariat. ITC members may also be nominated to represent the ATA and the trucking industry on government and Standards Australia technical committees.

A highlight each year is the annual Technology and Maintenance Conference, which brings together suppliers, workshop engineers and workshop managers to hear about and discuss the latest in technology and maintenance issues impacting the trucking industry. The ATA ITC is involved in developing each year’s conference program.
