ATA adds second prime mover to auction… and it’s the Safety Truck

02 June 2017
At Trucking Australia 2017, the ATA will now auction a second prime mover – and it’s the Volvo ATA Safety Truck prime mover.

The ATA announced the auction catalogue this week, but thanks to the generosity of Foundation Sponsor Volvo Trucks is now able to expand it to include this second, historic prime mover.

The CEO of the ATA, Ben Maguire, said it was the first time that Trucking Australia delegates would be able to bid on not one, but two prime movers.

“As part of its sponsorship of the ATA, Volvo Trucks provides us with the prime mover for the Volvo ATA Safety Truck,” Mr Maguire said.

“The current prime mover is the third we have operated since 2008, and Volvo Trucks has kindly agreed that we can auction it to support our road safety and other advocacy work.

“Volvo Trucks will replace the prime mover later this year, so we can continue spreading our important safety message into the future.

“The Volvo ATA Safety Truck prime mover to be auctioned is three years old and has travelled 154,000 kilometres. In that time, it’s seen every state and territory of Australia and has taught more than 40,000 people vital road safety information.

“During its time with the ATA, the prime mover has been driven by two excellent, careful drivers – Glen Schmidtke, our Safety Truck Advocate, and Justin Fleming, our TruckSafe General Manager. I can report that the ATA kept me away from the wheel!

“This is a great opportunity to own an immaculately maintained and driven prime mover that is also part of the trucking industry’s history.

“I would encourage anyone who’s interested to check the truck out on the Trucking Australia 2017 auction website, and then come to the event and be a part of the action,” Mr Maguire said.

The auction night dinner will take place on 21 June 2017 and is included in the full delegate registration for Trucking Australia 2017, which will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre.

Trucking Australia 2017 is supported by the ATA’s Foundation Sponsors: BP, NTI and Volvo Trucks.

It is also sponsored by AEI Transport, Bridgestone, BPW Transpec, CIMC, Cummins, Daimler Truck & Bus, Darwin Port, DECA, Land Development Corporation, MaxiTrans, MTData, PACCAR, TMW Systems and Thermo King.
