John Beer, from Romsey, Victoria, and Lynley Miners, from Adaminaby, New South Wales, have been elected to the General Council of the Australian Trucking Association in the 2017 trucking industry elections.
John Beer was elected as the owner driver representative and Lynley Miners elected as the small fleet operator representative. They will take office at the ATA Annual General Meeting on 5 April 2017 and will hold their roles for two years.
The online, secure election results were declared today by Independent Returning Officer Phil Potterton.
“I consider that the election processes have operated smoothly, effectively and securely and I also note high levels of voter turnout in the above results. I am satisfied that the election has been conducted fairly,” Mr Potterton said in his declaration of the poll.
The results for the owner driver position were:
- John Beer – 24 votes - 42.9% - ELECTED.
- Frank Black (Arcidiaco) – 18 votes - 32.1%
- Gordon Mackinlay – 14 votes - 26%
The turnout of voters was 56 of the 76 registered voters, or 73.7%.
The results for the small fleet operator position were:
- Lynley Miners – 30 votes - 88.2% - ELECTED.
- Leigh Smart – 4 votes - 11.8%
The turnout of voters was 34 of the 51 registered voters, or 66.7%.
ATA Chair Noelene Watson congratulated John Beer and Lynley Miners and thanked outgoing representatives Frank Black and Leigh Smart for their contribution to the ATA General Council.
“Frank Black has a long record of service to the industry and the ATA, having served as the owner driver representative from 2003 to 2009, and again from 2011 to 2017,” Mrs Watson said.
“Leigh Smart also has an active record of service to the industry, and has served as the small fleet operator representative from 2015 to 2017.
“Leigh Smart’s company, Formula Chemicals, was a finalist in this week’s prestigious Australian Road Safety Awards for raising road safety awareness with school children and the wider community.
“I thank Frank, Leigh, and Gordon Mackinlay for putting their hands up in this election, and their willingness to support and contribute to the industry.”
