International safety leader to speak at 2012 trucking convention

09 December 2011

Registrations are now open for the 2012 Australian Trucking Convention, which will feature international safety leader Don Osterberg, the Senior Vice President of Safety, Security and Driver Training at Schneider National in America.

The convention will be held from 16-19 May 2012 at the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre, Sydney.

The Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said Schneider National is one of the largest truckload carriers in North America, with more than 14,000 drivers and 12,000 trucks.

“Under Don Osterberg’s leadership, Schneider National has achieved massive safety improvements, productivity gains and business growth, including a 59 per cent reduction in fatal crashes, a 27 per cent reduction in fatigue-related accidents and $24 million in productivity cost savings,” Mr St Clair said.

“In his keynote presentation, Don Osterberg will explain how he got these results – and how his approach to workplace safety, engagement and motivation can transform any Australian trucking business.

“If you’re a trucking business owner or manager, it’s the presentation you must see in 2012.

“The ATA is delighted to be able to bring Don Osterberg to Australia, in conjunction with our partners at the Pacific Institute.”

At the convention, leading economic forecaster Chris Richardson from Deloitte Access Economics will brief delegates on the industry’s business outlook.

Corporate adviser Brendan Richards from Ferrier Hodgson will provide expert advice on how trucking businesses can manage the changes in the industry to come.

And leadership expert Gary Hodge from the Pacific Institute will hand delegates the tools to improve their business performance.

“Across the program, the Australian Trucking Convention will focus on the big issues for 2012,” Mr St Clair said.

Delegates who register for the full convention before 23 December will receive a $250 Christmas discount and the chance to win back the cost of their registration.

In addition, members of ATA associations, members of the ATA, ITC members and members of TruckSafe will receive a $100 member discount.
