Candidates announced for trucking industry election

15 February 2013

Trucking operators across Australia will start voting next week to elect the owner driver representative on the General Council of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), the peak body representing the industry.

The two candidates for the position are:

•    Frank Black (Arcidiaco) of Coopers Plains, Queensland
•    Allan Clark of West Wyalong, NSW

Meanwhile, industry stalwart Doug McMillan of Wodonga, Victoria, has been re-elected unopposed as the small fleet (2-5 truck) representative on the ATA General Council.

Mr McMillan has represented small fleet operators on the ATA Council for 19 years. He is a member of the ATA board and a director of the trucking industry’s safety and business management program, TruckSafe.

“I plan to do what I have done for 19 years – to represent the small end of the industry and fight the battles for us,” Mr McMillan said.

“Some things we win, some things we lose, but small fleet operators need to be represented and that is what I will continue to do,” he said.

The ACT Electoral Commission is conducting the election by postal ballot, with ballot papers due back by Tuesday 12 March 2013. More than 130 trucking operators are registered to vote in the election.
