The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Cities (DITRDC) should amend its exposure draft ADR on advanced emergency braking (AEBS) to add specific requirements about how advanced braking systems handle older trailers that are not fitted with ABS.
The ATA made the recommendation in its submission to the department on draft ADRs 35/07 and 97/00.
The draft ADRs would extend the existing requirements for electronic stability control to new rigid trucks and require new rigid trucks and prime movers to have advanced emergency braking.
The submission also recommends that the Government communicate much better with industry about how AEBS works.
