Owner drivers and the operators of small trucking fleets will go to the polls in early 2013 to elect two representatives on the General Council of the Australian Trucking Association.

Nominations and voter registration will open on 14 January 2013 and close on 11 February 2013.

The trucking industry’s safety accreditation program, TruckSafe, is pleased to announce its newest members Mainfreight Albury and Ballarat.

The Mainfreight (NZSX: MFT) name is well known, with its international network of road, rail, sea and air transport stretching through America, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Registrations are now open for Trucking Australia 2013, a new event from the Australian Trucking Association that will give delegates the opportunity to make a difference to the industry’s future.

The event will be held at Hamilton Island on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June 2013.

The ATA has appointed the 2012 National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year, Roz Shaw, as the Chair of its Skills and Workforce committee.
Mrs Shaw is the CEO of Hawkins Transport in Queensland.

The Australian Trucking Association has welcomed the appointment of Richard Hancock as the first chief executive of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Mr Hancock was previously the director of the NHVR Project Office, the body responsible for getting the regulator and the Heavy Vehicle National Laws established.

The trucking industry will have a say in how it will be taxed, after Australia’s transport ministers decided on Friday to appoint an industry representative to the board of Heavy Vehicle Charging and Investment Reform (HVCI).

The HVCI project aims to develop a new system for charging the trucking industry for its use of the roads, as well as helping governments make better decisions about road funding.
