The Government’s decision to move to a floating carbon price from 1 July 2014 would make the carbon tax much more bearable for trucking operators, the Chairman of the Australian Trucking Association, David Simon, said today.

As a result of the decision, trucking operators would pay an extra 1.6 cents per litre* in effective fuel tax from 1 July 2014. Under the Government’s original plan, trucking operators would have paid an extra 6.858 cents per litre.

The Australian Trucking Association has honoured Australia’s top truck driver and other leading industry figures in the 2013 National Trucking Industry Awards. The awards were presented at the ATA Foundation Sponsors Gala Awards Dinner on Hamilton Island on Friday 21 June.

The Labor Government’s plan to extend its carbon tax to truck fuel would cause more small trucking businesses to close, the Chairman of the Australian Trucking Association, David Simon, said on Sunday, 16 June.

Mr Simon was launching the ATA’s 2013 election campaign. The campaign focuses on the carbon tax, as well as fixing the road funding system and the way the industry is charged for its use of the roads.

Trucking Australia 2013 is booked out and the ATA has closed registrations following extremely high demand from trucking operators across Australia. Trucking Australia 2013 will be held on Hamilton Island from Friday 21 to Saturday 22 June 2013.

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) will completely renew its well-travelled mobile road safety exhibition, the Road Ahead.

The $1.3 million trailer will be redeveloped after being on the road for five years and hosting more than 80,000 visitors. The exhibition won the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia’s 2010 award for Excellence in Community Service.
